Reverse Shoulder Replacement

Dr. Samani Reverse Shoulder Replacement

What is Reverse Shoulder Replacement?

Over time, wear and tear or injury to the shoulder can result in significant pain and loss of movement. Two common conditions that are diagnosed are rotator cuff arthropathy and osteoarthritis with cuff deficiency. Depending on the extent and cause of the shoulder damage, your orthopedic surgeon can recommend a variety of treatments, among which is reverse shoulder replacement.

In traditional shoulder replacement, the parts of the shoulder that have "worn out" are replaced with new parts that have the ability to function smoothly. The parts of the bones that rub together are replaced with metal and plastic parts, treating these symptoms and, at times, bringing back great mobility to your shoulder.

Zimmer's Reverse Shoulder System

The DELTA XTEND Reverse Shoulder System has been used throughout the world since 1985 and has an extensive clinical history.' The DELTA XTEND Reverse Shoulder System consists of components that change the orientation of the shoulder so that the shoulder socket (glenoid) is replaced with an artificial ball (glenosphere), and the normal ball (humeral head) is replaced with an implant that combines a humeral cup and stems into which the artificial ball rests. This design alters the normal mechanics of the shoulder and enables the implant to stabilize the joint and restore motion when the rotator cuff is damaged.
